Wealdstone Under 11 vs Hampstead Under 11
Team : Andrew (Gk); Jaiden, Jordan, Samir, Paul ( Def); Eliott, Sean, Kafel, Jack ( Mid); Ibadet , Mikey ( Attack). A top of the table clash on a well-maintained pitch in Crouch End should have been a chance for Wealdstone to show their skills, but it wasn’t to be. Hampstead were strong and determined right from the kick off. The first five minutes Hampstead were dominant and threatened to score on a number of occasions. Samir and Paul had to be on top of their game right from the start. Having weathered this storm, Wealdstone grew into their game. A good pass from Paul was just too long for Ibadet to connect. Now it was Wealdstone’s turn to apply pressure. Ibadet and Kafel beat the defence, only for Mikey to shoot at the keeper. Sean beat the defense on the left and shot into the keeper’s arms. Ibadet got through the defence and round the keeper but the keeper recovered to smother the shot. A high shot from distance by Mikey threatened to bounce over the keeper. A shot from Paul was parried by the keeper and fell to Mikey whose shot sailed over the bar. It was all Wealdsone. Then totally against the run of play Hampstead got the break. A speculative shot from the edge of the box floated towards the post and Andrew injured himself trying to push it clear, only to see the ball fall behind him and in for 1-0. Wealdstone were determined to break straight back into the game, only to be caught out by a second lucky strike by Hampstead. Another high ball pushed hopefully goalwards beat Jaiden and Andrew to make it 2-0. Wealdstone were determined now to get a goal back before Half-Time. The half ended with Wealdstone back on top. At last the ball ended up in the Hampstead not, only for the referee to rule what seemed a legitimate goal off-side. The Coach made a change for the Second half, introducing Jack into attack in place of Mikey. There was almost an instant response with Jack hitting the post with a shot from the left. For the following ten minutes all the pressure came from Wealdstone. Paul and Jack combined to set up Ibadet, who shot wide. Sean shot from distance – easily saved, then from the edge of the box shot high over the bar. As Wealdsone pushed to get back into the game, Hampstead got the sucker punch. For the first time Hampstead got in behind the defence and scored with a well taken goal from the edge of the box. Wealdstone deserve credit for not letting their heads drop. Kafel was brought down in the Hampstead half. Jack fired in a well-struck free kick which the Wealdstone players were convinced the keeper failed o stop crossing the line. In the last 10 minutes Eliott had a great chance from a free kick and Mikey made a great break from the corner, half the length of the pitch, but couldn’t find the shot at the end. At the end then, a scrappy game, where Wealdstone had most of the play but were punished for not finishing their chances.
Sunday 24th February
Wealdstone Under 11’s v Mill Hill Team: Andrew (gk); Jordan, Samir, Paul, Bomi ( defence); Eliott, Sean, Jacko, Jack ( midfield); Mukey, Ibadet ( strikers). Score : 2 : 1. The Manager insisted that nothing less than 3 points was acceptable from this match and the lads fought hard throughout this match to meet his expectations. Mill Hill played their part in what was close, exciting match, only spoilt by some over-zealous tackles from Mill Hill It was a wind-swept pitch and Mill Hill won the toss and tried to use the advantage in the first half. Throughout most of the first half this advantage threatened o give Mill Hill the lead. Against the stiff breeze Andrew struggled with his kicks. It was all too easy for the Mill Hill mid-field to take possession and feed the goal-hungry Number 9. After 10 minutes this pressure led to the first real chance for Mill Hill, with a well struck corner being headed clear from the line by Jack. Changes followed for Wealdstone. To refresh the attack Jacko was replaced by Kafel and Jack by Jaiden. The next change was forced. A good tackle by Samir broke up the next Mill Hill attack, but at the cost of an injury, which saw him carried off. As the reformed defence settled in another Mill Hill attack led to a free kick from the left. A well-struck shot hit the cross bar and out. In the final 10 minutes of the Half, Jaiden’s running began to make a difference. A string of late tackles by Mill Hill stirred up the Wealdstone players. Jack got the ball forward to Mikey for the first Wealdstone attack. Kafel wriggled into the box on the right. Ibadet should have scored as a glorious ball from Kafel flashed across the undefended face of the Mill Hill goal. Wealdstone gained the upper hand and made the breakthrough. Mikey unsettled the defence and got a shot at the keeper. The keeper fumbled and Eliott hit the ball firmly into the back of the Mill Hill net. Wealdstone should have held the lead until half-time, but in extra-time Mill Hill finally got the wind advantage to work for them. A firm free-kick from outside the box on the right swung in the wind. Unfortunately Andrew fumbled the catch and as the defence looked on, Mill Hill pounced for an equaliser. Fuelled by having the wind behind them or by strong words from the Manager, Wealdstone came out strongly in the second half. Within seconds of the whistle Jaiden got into the box but shot at the keeper for an easy save. Kafel then made a good run down the left wing and worked the ball to Mikey. His ball went right across the goal, but there was no-one there to finish. There was then a strong Wealdstone appeal for a penalty as Kafel was brought down just in the Mill Hill box. It looked as if Wealdstone might have wasted their advantage and Mill Hill started to come back. It took a great individual effort by Ibadet to make the difference. He set off on a solo run from the centre and pace and strength saw him all the way through. The defence came out to stop him. Ibadet and Kafel both went for the finish, with Ibadet just getting their first to produce an emphatic finish. To their credit, Mill Hill refused to give in. Sean was working very hard to contain the Mill Hill mid-field and protect the defence. Half way through the half the Mill Hill number 9 got free on the left, worked the ball to an unmarked number 10 who really should have scored. Mikey was determined to score against his old team and took the game to Mill Hill in search of a goal.. It just wasn’t to be, but from one run the ball came through to Kafel whose shot was agonisingly wide. Wealdstone couldn’t add to their advantage and by the end of the match 2-1 felt like a well-earned, hard-fought victory.
Sunday 10th February Wealdstone v. Harefield Team – Jordan ©, Jaiden, Samir, , Andrew (gk), Paul, Eliott, Jack, Jacko, Kafel, Ibadet, Mikey. It was obvious from the kick off that this was going to be a struggle. Within minutes of the kick off Harefield broke through into the Wealdstone box and were only really stopped by the off-side rule. It was clear that Harefield were up for this game. For the first ten minutes the flow of the game was with Harefield. Samir was called into defensive action twice, once heading clear and forward into a packed mid-field, the second time blocking a Harefield run on goal following a weak goal-kick. Having soaked up this early pressure, Wealdstone began to get back into the game. Jacko was working like a demon on his wing and began to create some Wealdstone advantages. The first Wealdstone chance came from a good ball into the Harefield box by Jacko which Kafel just couldn’t control. Another great strike from Kafel flashed across the goal, before he finally hit the target. The ball forward was from Jack. Mikey provided the link up and Kafel finished confidently. Wealdstone failed to take control of the game following the goal. Harefield sprang straight back with a series of free kicks from around the box, one of which drew a good save from Andrew. Harefield failed to break through and Wealdstone came back into the game. Wealdstone then had their one flash of inspiration in the whole game, with some great give and go passing between Jacko and Mikey which nearly took them through on goal. This led to the big moment of controversy in the first half, with Kafel up-ended in the Harefield box, but no penalty according to the ref. Harefield came out to start the Second Half in the same determined mood. Wealdstone lost concentration and Harefield were in for the equaliser. A defender lost his man on the left, Samir chased across desperate to stop the shot, but as too late. The shot looped over Andrew and in. To their credit Wealdstone went looking for the winner, but there was desperation in their play now. Instead of getting the ball down and gaining control of the game through passing, Wealdstone fell back on long, hopeful balls hit into the Harefield box. The Harefield defense was far too well organised to fall for this. The one good chance of the half fell to Ibadet after some good approach play by Mikey, but the control let him down as a goal beckoned. Musa came on for Jacko who had run himself into the ground – a well deserved man of the match performance. At times in the closing stages it was Wealdstone who were hanging on. A goal mouth scramble led to heated Harefield appeals for handball. It ended in stalemate and a lot of credit must go to Harefield for the positive way in which they approached this game.
Sun 30th September
Greenford Celtic A 0-7 Wealdstone - League Cup
This was the under 11's second official game and the boys continued with their 100% winning run after beating an established Ruislip Rangers A team in the league two weeks ago. The first half seen Wealdstone cruise to a 5-0 lead with goals fom Mikey, Jack (3) and a Jordan penalty. The scoreline was a fair reflection on the high standard of football all the boys produced, maybe we should have had more but at half time no complaints!
Second half and an opportnity to switch the players round. Two more goals in this period coming fom Bomi and Jonjoa, although realistically it should have been many many more!! We had 2/3 goals disallowed and poor Mikey couldn't find the net once from his many efforts (on another day eh). Our stand in keeper for the day gave a clear penalty away but then stood strong to keep the clean sheet, well done Samir!! Well done to all the boys. A final shout to the Greenford boys who battled throughout.
Sun 7th October
Wealdstone 7-0 Forest United
Team: Musa, Samir, Boumi, Pedro, Jordan, Eliott, Jayden, Jacko, Jack, Mikey – Subs – Aaran, Joao.
The game started with Forest looking lively and pressing for an early advantage. Within the first 5 minutes they had earned a corner from the right, but failed to press the ball home. After this early spell of Forest pressure, Wealdstone began to find their passing and moving rhythm. In a heart-stopping moment for the Forest keeper the ball was kicked high into the air off of the goal-line. Astonishingly the Wealdstone front men watched the show instead of trying to seize the advantage. The first goal came from a well delivered cross by Pedro on the right. The ball bounced, Jack took a touch to settle himself and fired home – 1-0! The goal seemed to settle the front men and give them more confidence. Mikey had a good run in on goal from his wing, Jack was unlucky to see a shot parried away. The ball fell straight to a Wealdstone striker who volleyed home number 2 into the corner of the net. Then as Forest were looking for a way back in Jack struck home his second and the goal that gave Wealdstone the decisive advantage. Jack showed excellent composure and control on the edge of the box and gave their hard-working keeper no chance.
The pattern of the second half repeated the first. Forest came out strongly from the whistle and threw in some good attacking moves, culminating an a shot and a corner. Just as the pressure on Wealdstone was building, Jacko and Musa combined for number 4, with Musa getting on the end of a flick into the box by Jacko. The fifth goal came shortly after, a great individual effort by Eliott, who wove his way from midfield, into the box and launched an unstoppable shot goal-wards. The confidence of the front line was now sky high, and Musa joined the party with a few3 tricks of his own – juggling the ball on the edge of the box, before calmly striking home through a crowded box. A great effort by the whole team was crowned by a link up between Jack and Mikey, Jack making the decisive pass through to Mikey who shot home with a great final strike.
The final score didn’t reflect the hard work Forest put into the game, but was a credit to the improving passing and movement of Wealdstone. No room for complacency boys, there’s a long season ahead!
Man of the Match = Jack Smith.
